Hard Traveling Heroes - private commission, 2006.
After seeing the Avengers piece I’d done for HeroesCon, Dan DiDio told me we should talk about doing some DCU stuff. At the time, I was working mostly on Vertigo projects, but the aesthetic challenge of drawing a superhero title was strangely compelling. I was still doing more elaborate private commissions then, and I brought this into DC to show Dan what my superhero work might look like. He looked at it, said “Follow me.” We walked down to editor Mike Carlin’s office, where he waved the piece at Carlin and announced “I think we got our guy.”  Turned out they were launching a Green Arrow & Black Canary monthly and luckily, Carlin agreed with Dan. Easiest gig I ever got, so even with a lot of wonkiness (ignore the arrow on the wrong side of the bow), I still have a soft spot for this piece.
